How THE CUP Got Started

Indianapolis Junior Golf Foundation
Evansville Junior Golf Association

In 2007, Darren Brinker from Evansville Junior Golf Association contacted Bryan Crouch of The Indianapolis Junior Golf Foundation about the possibility of playing a two day 36 hole match using a Ryder Cup format. Bryan loved the idea and Darren’s only request was that THE CUP and tournament be named after Earl Yestingsmeier who coached the Ball State University Mens Golf Team from 1963 to 1998. The first match would be played at The Trophy Club in Lebanon Indiana in 2007. Bryan wanted to have it there because his good friend, B.G. Winings, was the Head Golf Professional and had played for Coach Yestingsmeier at Ball State.

Originally teams were made up of 8 girls and 12 boys: Girls 16-19 (4), Girls 14-16 (4), Boys 16-19 (6), Boys 14-16 (4) and Boys 12-14 (2). Throughout the matches the number and makeup of the teams has varied and today we have 24 players on each team. That being: Boys 16-19 (6), Boys 14-16 (4), Boys 12-14 (2), Girls 16-19 (6), Girls 14-16 (4) and Girls 12-14 (2).

Also Coach Mike Harper replaced Darren Brinker in 2009 and Coach Anna Hevron replaced coach Mike Harper in 2016.
